Four Communication Styles

Connection

Do you know what your communication style is? Knowing this, plus the styles of the people you work with will help you communicate effectively.

There are four quadrants to help you find out what your communication style is. In the vertical, there’s control and spontaneous to detect how you structure your communications. In the horizontal axis, there’s direct to in direct to identify how quickly you get to a point and move on to the next.

Tim shares in detail what the four styles are when you put the quadrants together. If you’re spontaneous and direct, you’re an explorer. Spontaneous and indirect? Counselor. If you’re in the indirect and control quadrant, you seek out open-ended discussions with clear structure.

Or if you’re direct and in control, then you prefer short, crisp communication. Each style has its benefits and drawbacks. As you watch this mental model video, map yourself out. Plus, map out your key stakeholders’ communication styles, too.
